March 10th Deals:
OT Mike Remmers signs w/ Minnesota Vikings
Contract is worth 5 years/$30 million. Vikings O-line, particularly their pass blocking, was horrific. Remmers had a solid career in Carolina and will help improve the Vikings line.
S Nate Allen signs w/ Miami Dolphins
Contract is worth 1 year/$3.4 million. A veteran safety headed to Miami. Will add depth and versatility which will benefit the Dolphins pass defense.
TE Martellus Bennett signs w/ Green Bay Packers
Contract is worth 3 years/$21 million. One of the top five tight ends in the NFL. Rodgers had great success with Jared Cook last season, just imagine the type of numbers he can put up with Martellus Bennett.
WR Terrance Williams signs w/ Dallas Cowboys
Contract is worth 4 years/$17 million, $9.5 million guaranteed. Since his rookie season, he’s had big expectations of being a solid #2 wide receiver that would benefit from the single coverage he would face with Dez Bryant on the other side. He hasn’t lived up to the potential but nonetheless Cowboys aren’t in a position to get a better receiver.
CB Nolan Carroll signs w/ Dallas Cowboys
Contract is worth 3 years/$10 million. Had a nice career with the Eagles. Versatile defensive back that will help the Cowboys’ pass defense.
DE/OLB Jabaal Sheard signs w/ Indianapolis Colts
Contract is worth 3 years/$25.5 million, $12.75 million guaranteed. Sheard has a solid pass rush and is a good run stopper as well. Colts run stopping defense was atrocious so they fill a big need on the defensive side of the ball.
WR Charles Johnson signs w/ Carolina Panthers
Contract is worth 1 year/$2.2 million. Now their are two Charles Johnsons in Carolina (the other being the defensive end) and Johnson will provide some depth at the wide receiver position. With Philly Brown leaving in free agency, Johnson is a nice replacement.
WR Brandin Cooks traded to New England Patriots
New Orleans Saints receive 2017 1st-round pick, 2017 3rd-round pick.
New England Patriots receive WR Brandin Cooks, 2017 4th-round pick. The Saints are trying to rebuild and get two picks in the first three rounds in exchange for one of the most explosive slot receivers in the NFL. Brady, who just came off his fifth super bowl victory, has one of the best receivers to throw to since Randy Moss was a Patriot.
OT Menelik Watson signs w/ Denver Broncos
Contract is worth 3 years/$18.3 million. Broncos lost Russell Okung in free agency but make a solid pickup in free agency to replace him.
ILB Lawrence Timmons signs w/ Miami Dolphins
Contract is worth 2 years/$12 million, $11 million guaranteed. Timmons is a long time Steeler line backer who played in a Pittsburgh defense that requires versatile line backers. May have lost a step but Timmons will provide veteran leadership on the Dolphins defense.
DE Kony Ealy traded to New England Patriots
Carolina Panthers receive 2017 2nd-round pick.
New England Patriots receive DE Kony Ealy, 2017 3rd-round pick. As soon as news broke this trade was made it was sort of a head scratcher for the Panthers’ side of things. If Panthers won Super Bowl 50 two years ago, Ealy most likely would have won Super Bowl MVP. A very good defensive end makes the Patriots defense even scarier then they already were. Panthers are betting on this year’s talent in the first two rounds of the draft.
WR Terrelle Pryor Sr. signs w/ Washington
Contract is worth 1 year/$8 million. Pryor Sr. had a really good season in his first year at the wide receiver position. He was the lone bright spot of the Browns’ offense last year. Could have gotten a larger and multi-year deal but his off the field issues probably effected teams around the league willingness to give him a big contract.
CB D.J. Hayden signs w/ Detroit Lions
Contract is worth 1 year/$5.25 million. An above average corner that hasn’t lived up to his potential in the NFL. Hayden is still a versatile corner that can provide quality snaps for the Lions’ defense.
S Johnathan Cyprian signs w/ Tennessee Titans
Contract is worth 4 years/$25 million. A big hitting safety that can come in and help out on the run game and also play some coverage. Titans landing some big defensive backs in free agency.
WR Pierre Garcon signs w/ San Francisco 49ers
Contract is worth 5 years/$47.5 million, $17 million guaranteed. Garcon has been a nice slot receiver for whatever team he’s played for in the league. Now all the 49ers need is a quarterback that can throw to him and new head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offense will be in business.
ILB A.J. Klein signs w/ New Orleans Saints
Contract is worth 3 years/$15 million, $9.4 million guaranteed. Klein played behind one of the best line backer duos in Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis over in Carolina and saw limited playing time over there. He flashed a lot of potential when he did get in and he should help a young inexperienced Saints defense.
G Larry Warford signs w/ New Orleans Saints
Contract is worth 4 years/$34 million, $17 million guaranteed. Saints needed to sure up their offensive line and land a very good guard in Warford.
C Stefen Wiseniewski re-signs w/ Philadelphia Eagles
Contract is worth 3 years/$9 million. Wiseniewski won’t wow you at the center position but he does a lot of things well and the Eagles were smart to bring him back to Philly.
DE/OLB John Simon signs w/ Indianapolis Colts
Contract is worth 3 years/$13.5 million. The Colts pass rush and run stopping game was far below the league’s average. Simon will be a solid defensive end in the rotation for the Colts’ defense next year.
DE William Hayes traded to Miami Dolphins
Los Angeles Rams receive 2017 6th-round pick.
Miami Dolphins receive DE William Hayes, 2017 7th-round pick. Hayes is in the back end of his career and the Rams dump him to get a late round draft pick. He’ll be in the rotation amongst the Dolphins defensive line next season.
DT Chris Baker signs w/ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Contract is worth 3 years/$15.75 million, $9 million guaranteed. Chris Baker had a really nice couple seasons as a nose tackle in the Redskins defense. With Gerald McCoy and Baker clogging up the middle the Buccaneers will have an improved defensive line.
TE Rhett Ellison signs w/ New York Giants
Contract is worth 4 years/$18 million, $8 million guaranteed. Ellison never got much playing time in Minnesota behind Kyle Rudolph but he flashed some potential. Giants banking on him being their missing link at the tight end position they’ve been missing the past few seasons.
S Duron Harmon re-signs w/ New England Patriots
Contract is worth 4 years/$17 million, $6.5 million guaranteed. Harmon is a very quick safety in a deep Patriots secondary. Look for the Patriots pass defense amongst one of the best in the league again.
March 9th Deals:
DB Chris Conte re-signs w/ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Contract is worth 2 years/ $5 million, $2.5M guaranteed. Conte has had nice bounce back seasons in Tampa after a poor start to his career in Chicago. Not a great defensive back but can play special teams and be inserted in the rotation at the safety position.
QB Landry Jones re-signs w/ Pittsburgh Steelers
Contract is worth 2 years/ $4.4 million. Big Ben’s backup for the past few seasons and the Steelers liked what he did in the few times he was called upon. Jones will continue to shadow Big Ben and most likely be his replacement when he retires.
WR Markus Wheaton signs w/ Chicago Bears
Contract is worth 2 years/ exact amount hasn’t been released yet. Wheaton did not play much in Pittsburgh behind Antonio Brown and company but can be a solid #3 or #2 receiver in Chicago once they get a quarterback.
OG Chance WarmaCrawck signs w/ Philadelphia Eagles
Contract is worth 1 year/ $1.51 million. The former first rounder hasn’t lived up to his potential but gets another chance in Philadelphia.
DL Jack Crawford signs w/ Atlanta Falcons
Contract is worth 3 years/ $10.3 million. Crawford is versatile at the defensive line position and will improve the Falcons front seven.
TE Levine Toilolo re-signs w/ Atlanta Falcons
Contract is worth 3 years/ $12 million. Did not get a lot of receptions but Toilolo is predominantly a blocking tight end that will make some nice catches from time to time.
DT Brandon Williams re-signs w/ Baltimore Ravens
Contract is worth 5 years/ $54 million, $27.5M guaranteed. After letting Haloti Ngata walk in free agency a few year back, it was important that the Ravens keep their young nose tackle.
CB Logan Ryan signs w/ Tennessee Titans
Contract is worth 3 years/ $30 million. Tennessee is a young team with potential and adding Ryan to the secondary is a huge boost for them. He may not be an elite corner in the NFL but he’s a very versatile corner.
QB Matt Barkley signs w/ San Fransisco 49ers
Contract is worth 2 years/ exact amount hasn’t been released yet. Will most likely serve as the 49ers backup quarterback, even their third string. Will compete with Brian Hoyer and which ever rookie they draft for the starting spot.
DE/OLB Barkevious Mingo signs w/ Indianapolis Colts
Contract is worth 1 year/$2.5 million. The former first round pass rusher hasn’t lived up to his potential in the NFL but he still can provide quality minutes in pass rush scenarios and will improve the Colts defense.
TE Anthony Fasano signs w/ Miami Dolphins
Contract is worth 1 year/$3 million. A solid pass catcher from the tight end position. Dolphins landed tight end Julius Thomas via trade this offseason as well so two solid additions for the offense.
OT Russell Okung signs w/ Los Angeles Charges
Contract is worth 4 years/ $53 million, $25M guaranteed. Chargers just released Fluker earlier in the week and they very quickly find his replacement. Okung, one of the better offensive tackles in the league, will no be in charge of protecting quarterback Philip Rivers.
S D.J. Swearinger signs w/ Washington Redskins
Contract is worth 3 years/ $13.5 million. Washington lands a diamond in the rough. Swearinger played in the shadows of Tony Jefferson, Tyrann Mathieu and others in Arizona but he can have a breakout year as a starter next year for the Redskins defense.
LB Nick Perry re-signs w/ Green Bay Packers
Contract is worth 5 years/ $60 million, $18.5M guaranteed. The Packers needed to retain one of their best pass rushers from last year and they do, getting a long term deal done with Perry. Very productive first five years in the league, a versatile linebacker.
S Antoine Bethea signs w/ Arizona Cardinals
Contract is worth 3 years/ Exact amount hasn’t been released yet. Cardinals lose Swearinger and Jefferson in free agency but Bethea is a solid veteran that will take their place and will be a good leader in the back end for the Cardinals.
LB Malcolm Smith signs w/ San Fransisco 49ers
Contract is worth 5 years/ $26.5 million, $13M guaranteed. The former Super Bowl MVP will provide a huge boost to a line backer corp that was amongst the worst in the leage last year.
CB A.J. Bouye signs w/ Jacksonville Jaguars
Contract is worth 3 years/ $44 million. Bouye balled out last season with the Texans and you can make the case he is one of the best nickel/slot corners in the league. Very versatile defensive back. Jaguars pass defense just got 10 times better.
S Micah Hyde signs w/ Buffalo Bills
Contract is worth 5 years/ $32.5 million, $14 million guaranteed. Hyde has been one of the best defensive backs in Green Bay the past few years. Bills fill a huge need by adding Hyde to their secondary.
OT Luke Joeckel signs w/ the Seattle Seahawks
Contract is worth 1 year/$8 million. Seahawks offensive line was absolutelty terrible last year. Joeckel hasn’t lived up to his initial potential but he is still an upgrade at the position for Seattle.
WR Desean Jackson signs w/ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Contract is worth 3 years/ $35 miillion, $20M guranteed. The Bucs finally have added a solid #2 wide receiver to go along with Mike Evans. Quarterback Jameis Winston is going to have fun throwing to Jackson.
S Tony Jefferson signs w/ Baltimore Ravens
Contract is worth 4 years/ $36 million. The Ravens defense hasn’t been what it used to in years past but signing elite safety Jefferson and pairing him with Eric Weddle in the back end of the secondary will certainly improve their pass defense.
WR Alshon Jeffrey signs w/ Philadelphia Eagles
Contract is worth 1 year/ $14 million. Signing Torrey Smith and Jeffrey are both huge for the Eagles. Wentz now have some serious options to throw to this year.
QB Brock Osweiler traded to Cleveland Browns
Houston Texans receive 2017 4th-round pick.
Cleveland Browns recieve QB Brock Osweiler, 2018 2nd-round pick, and 2017 4th-round pick. Rumors are that they might release Osweiler so might have made this move just for extra picks. Texans are fortunate they have Brock off their hands.
G Kevin Zeitler signs w/ Cleveland Browns
Contract is worth 5 years/$60 million, $31.5 million guaranteed. Putting together a solid O-line is a good start to the Cleveland rebuilding era.
DE Calais Campbell signs w/ Jacksonville Jaguars
Contract is worth 4 years/$60 million, $30 million guaranteed. Campbell will now play along side Dante Fowler Jr, Jared Odrick and Malik Jackson in Jacksonville. Could be a scary good defensive line next year.
G Ben Ijalana re-signs w/ New York Jets
Contract is worth 2 years/$11 million. Jets entire offense was a mess last year but they begin to rebuild by bringing in a solid interior offensive lineman.
K Steven Hauschka signs w/ Buffalo Bills
Contract is worth 4 years/$12.4 million. One of the better kickers in the league, Bills get an upgrade at the position.
WR Kenny Britt signs w/ Cleveland Browns
Contract is worth 4 years/$32.5 million. Had a nice year with the Rams despite having two below average quarterbacks throwing to him. This move could mean they will let Terrell Pryor Sr. walk in FA.
OT Andrew Whitworth signs w/ Los Angeles Rams
Contract is worth 3 years/$36 million, $15 million guaranteed. Very good move for the Rams to solidify their O-line as they begin to rebuild. Goff now has a blindside protector.
WR Torrey Smith signs w/ Philadelphia Eagles
Contract is worth 3 years/$15 million. Smith is a speedster and will be a huge boost to the Eagles vertical passing game.
WR Robert Woods signs w/ Los Angeles Rams
Contract is worth 5 years/$39 million. Woods is a big physical wide receiver that is playing back in the Los Angeles Coliseum where he played his college ball. Solid replacement after the loss of Kenny Britt.
QB Mike Glennon signs w/ Chicago Bears
Contract is worth 3 years/$45 million. Will he start? Probably. Even if Glennon serves as the backup he’s an upgrade at the position for what the Bears had last year. It was about time they move away from Cutler.
DT Terrell McClain signs w/ Washington
Contract is worth 4 years/$21 million. Washington lost out on resigning Chris Baker but sign McClain. A slight upgrade at the position.
S Quintin Demps signs w/ Chicago Bears
Contract is worth 3 years/$13.5 million. There’s a very young inexperienced secondary in Chicago but adding Demps will help improve the defense.
G Ronald Leary signs w/ Denver Broncos
Contract is worth 4 years/$35 million, $20 million guaranteed. Broncos had their struggle running the ball last year, especially in between the tackles. This move should help bolster the run game.
DT Alan Branch re-signs w/ New England Patriots
Contract is worth 2 years/$12 million. May not wow anyone but the Patriots have made a living off of good role players that fit their system.
DE Chandler Jones re-signs w/ Arizona Cardinals
Contract is worth 5 years/$83 million, $53 million guaranteed. Good to see the Cardials get this deal done, premier pass rusher staying put in Arizona. Jones gave Arizona the pass rush they have been missing in the years past.
