10 Lucha Underground Matches to Check Out on Netflix

Lucha Underground has finally arrived on Netflix. There has been rumors that the wrestling show from the El Rey Network would be making its way to Netflix, and now the first 2 seasons are now available to be viewed. Lucha Underground is a truly unique wrestling experience as it combines high-flying pro wrestling with a cinematic style more closer with a movie. By integrating stars from Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA), one of the largest promotions in Mexico, Lucha Underground provides some of the best luchadors in the world, providing some fantastic moves and matches that have amazed viewers for the last couple years. However, it can be difficult to know where to begin. You can certainly start at the first episode and go from there and by no means is that a bad plan. But like all wrestling shows, there are those specific matches that stand out from the rest. These 10 matches certainly match that description, and you would be wise to check them out now that they are available on Netflix.

Aztec Warfare I

Season 1, Episode 9: “Aztec Warfare”

We start with one of the most exciting match concepts in Lucha Underground. Similar to the Royal Rumble, two wrestlers begin the match and another joins the match every 90 seconds (or at least that’s the time they tell people) until 20 wrestlers have entered the match. However, instead of simply sending your opponents over the top rope, eliminations are by pinfall or submission. This makes for some very interesting results, as each finishers are used far more often and the entire arena is used as a battleground, rather than overstuffing the ring. Aztec Warfare I is a real benchmark of just how entertaining Lucha Underground is. Not to mention that this match also crowned the first ever Lucha Underground Champion.
