The ultimate thrill ride has arrived (hosted by the world famous, longest reigning tag team champs, The New Day)! WrestleMania is the highlight of the entire year of WWE, akin to a season finale of a TV show. Major storylines reach a climax, and a years worth of build finally pays off. This year, we have the culmination of Goldberg’s return, the fracturing of the Wyatt Family, two former best friends battling, and the possible last ride for the Undertaker. The slate of matches this year may not be as amazing as some people would like, but the potential for an excellent event is certainly there. The question is whether or not the right booking occurs. Here are my predictions for WrestleMania 33:
(Quick reminder: predictions for title matches are based on who walks out with the title. So if there is a DQ, the correct selection is the current title holder.)
2017 Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal
The Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal is a wonderful idea in theory. Many time, it can be a great opportunity to give those without a marquee match a chance to participate in WrestleMania. But for the most part, this match has become a chance for big men to look strong and lower card guys to be thrown around in a comedic fashion. This year’s match has far too much talent for what this match has become. American Alpha, Sami Zayn, Braun Strowman, and the CURRENT SMACKDOWN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS The Usos are all examples of stars that should have a bigger place on the card, but are left to fumble around with a field of 30 guys in one ring. While this match could be a showcase for unused talent, its position on the kickoff show is a clear indication that this is just meant to be fun.
Prediction: Braun Strowman
Ironically, I predicted Strowman would win last year in disappointment when he was nothing more than a green, lumbering tower. Now, it seems ridiculous that a man with his talent could possibly lose this match. The match will likely include The Big Show and Braun Strowman tossing guys around, until they meet face to face. Strowman will come out on top, fight off a gutsy comeback by a babyface (likely Sami Zayn), and reign as the next great monster. It will be a wonderful sight to see Strowman almost literally win the title of the next Andre the Giant, as his work will likely place in a similar position as Andre.
