With WrestleMania (Check out those picks here) just around the corner, there are bound to be huge moments coming in WWE before, during, and after the big event. The Hall of Fame inducts Kurt Angle, Rick Rude, Diamond Dallas Page, and more. The Raw and Smackdown following is sure to be filled with surprises. One other event that will be filled with excitement is NXT Takeover: Orlando. The hype for NXT has died down a bit in the last year, but the talent that current reside with the brand is still remarkable. For a look at the future of the WWE, you must keep your eye on NXT, and Takeover is the biggest showing of that future. Here are my predictions for the matches of NXT Takeover: Orlando:
First, a reminder that championship match picks are based on who walks out as champion. If there is a DQ, the correct pick would be the current champion.
Andrade “Cien” Almas v. Aleister Black
NXT loves to debut new talent on the biggest stage. In most cases, that talent deserves the stage they have been given. For example, each of the competitors in the single’s title matches had their debut match at Takeover. If that isn’t enough of a vote of confidence, the resume of this debuting talent will certainly help. Aleister Black (or Tommy End on the independent scene) has quickly risen up the ranks of wrestling with his unique style. His use of kickboxing in his wrestling style make for some stiff strikes and excellent matches. Pair that with an opponent like Andrade “Cien” Almas, who has really grown in the last few months, and you have the potential for show-stealing match.
Prediction: Aleister Black
The result is a forgone conclusion. From my memory, stars who debut at Takeover for the last couple years are undefeated, and that seems very unlikely to change. Almas will look strong for a while as he aggressively attacks Black until a great comeback to give the newcomer a solid victory. It is a bit disappointing to see that Almas’ streak of solid matches will lead to a lose to a new star, but Black has the potential to be huge.
