The road to the NFL draft marches on, and here at Babble Royale continue to march along with it by giving you our predictions for the first round of picks. This time we have the Bengals and the Bills.
1st Round Picks: #9
The Bengals just had the worst season in the Andy Dalton-era. Having missed the playoffs for the first time since drafting the former TCU product, the weaknesses of Cincinnati were exposed when they lost some of their biggest playmakers in A.J. Green, Giovanni Bernard, and Jeremy Hill. The defense was proven to be lacking along the defensive front, and the question of pass-catching weapons beyond Green has still yet to be solved. Not to mention the recent gouging of the offensive line this past free agency. There are questions abound, and many may not believe the Bengals can get back to playoff form.
Pick #9: DE Derek Barnett (Tennessee)
Carlos Dunlap and Geno Atkins are two excellent defensive lineman. However, they need more help to bring the pressure against opposing QBs. Derek Barnett is considered the second-best pass-rusher in the draft behind Myles Garrett. He has all the tools to succeed on the pro level, and has the stats to prove that he is the real deal. Adding him to that impressive defensive line, and the Bengals will be able to disrupt opposing offenses on a far more regular basis.
1st Round Picks: #10
The Rex Ryan-era has come to a swift end. After a little under two seasons, Rex Ryan was fired as Head Coach, and replaced this off-season by Sean McDermott. There is certainly pressure for McDermott to succeed, as Buffalo has plenty invested in the roster today with little room for failure. The defense is solid up front and the running game is one of the best in the league. But the passing game has plenty to improve upon, and the defensive backfield is going through quite a few changes. The time is now for Buffalo to win.
Pick #10: WR Mike Williams (Clemson)
The top wide receiver prospect has yet to be determined, but right up there on the list is Mike Williams. Buffalo desperately needs a weapon to add as a partner to Sammy Watkins. The addition of Philly Brown and Andre Holmes are a start, but neither are a potential WR1. With Sammy Watkins’ injury history, there is a need for a top-level receiver. Mike Williams can excel all over the field and will provide Tyrod Tayor with more options moving forward.
