While the Atlanta Falcons are one of the most exciting teams in the NFL, Atlanta Hawks are probably the exact opposite in the NBA. Many casual basketball fans would be hard-pressed to name even two of the starting five of this team, but that does not mean they aren’t a dangerous team. With youth and effort on their side, the Hawks are certain to catch some fans eyes as the season goes on.
2016-17 Record: 43-39 (5th seed, eliminated in 1st round by Wizards)
Players Added: Luke Babbitt (via FA), Marco Belinelli (via Trade w/ CHA)
Players Lost: Paul Millsap (via FA), Dwight Howard (via Trade w/ CHA)
What To Watch For: Substance Over Style
In terms of talent and stars, the Hawks are probably the most boring team in the NBA. There is not a top 10 player of any position on this team. Yet this team can accomplish quite a lot. HC Mike Budenholzer gets the most of his guys, and the team works as a cohesive unit because of that. If a few of their above average players like Dennis Schroeder can play up to the level of a star, this team could surprise a lot of folks.
Best Case Scenario: Sneak Into The Playoffs While Nobody Is Looking
While Atlanta may not be flashy or exciting, they are certainly solid enough to outplay most of the Eastern Conference. The Hawks should reach the playoffs once again this year, and if they can start rolling later in the year, this young squad could surprise a few teams if they aren’t on their A-game.
2017-2018 Prediction: 4th-6th Seed
